Tim Stewart, AIA

Principal

Tim, a licensed architect and Massachusetts native, brings a lifetime of experience and expertise to Outlands Design on Martha's Vineyard. Leaving behind award-winning architecture firms such as Eck MacNeely Architects and Murdough Design, where he worked on extraordinary homes and private schools, Tim brings a refined craft to the Vineyard where he designs and oversees the building of traditional and contemporary luxury homes.

Throughout his career, Tim has gained valuable experience in aligning design vision with functional detailing and relatable construction practices, harmonizing artistry and technique. He approaches each project with a strong attention to the site's overall context and landscape, rooting his homes into their surroundings. Tim's passions are in exploring meaningful solutions to unique challenges with a dedication to balancing design and function.

With a high degree of technical expertise, Tim ensures that projects are realized efficiently and artfully. He seeks to inspire those around him, leading others in the field of residential design in New England. Tim received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Wentworth Institute of Technology, laying the foundation for his successful career.

When not working, Tim enjoys playing tennis, cycling, skiing, and traveling. He lives on the Vineyard with his wife Alice and his two children.

Don Bartels, AIA

Senior Associate

Don brings over 30 years of experience perfecting the art of single-family home design to Outlands Design. As a licensed architect in Massachusetts since 1993, he has worked with award-winning architecture firms including Swain Associates, Signer Harris Architects, Ivan Bereznicki Associates, and Eck MacNeely Architects.

Living on the Vineyard, Don has developed a unique appreciation and understanding of the rural landscape and its relationship with the built environment that informs his work. Passive solar design concepts are also vitally important to his residential design strategies.

As an experienced project manager, Don’s strengths lie in structural, mechanical, and technical systems integration. His vast experience has taught him how to manage teams and deliver projects on schedule and within budget, helping to ensure that projects are realized as efficiently and artfully as possible.

Don received his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Nebraska, with an emphasis on design and technology, laying the foundation for his successful career. He continues to inspire those around him and lead others in the field of residential design in New England.

When not working, Don enjoys travelling, watching sports, playing golf and pickleball. He also enjoys hand-drawing and watercolor when time allows.

Blaise La Porta

Associate

Blaise brings 10 years of single-family-residential design experience to Outlands Design, working at several Boston area and Cape Cod firms prior to joining the team. Over the course of his professional career, he has also had the opportunity to work on a variety of project types, ranging from assisted living developments, laboratories, and consumer-facing commercial projects. Blaise enjoys working together with multi-disciplinary teams to integrate the structure, landscape, and systems of each project to achieve the client’s goals.

For Blaise, architecture transcends the aesthetic to connect families with their space in a unique and meaningful way. Through thoughtful collaboration with each client, their home becomes the perfect opportunity to develop creative and unique solutions that reflect the individuality of each property and owner.

After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Northeastern University, he spent three years in Philadelphia completing his Master of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania School of Design. Upon graduation, he moved back to Massachusetts to live and work, eventually finding his home in the Cape Cod town of Sandwich, with his growing family.

In his free time, Blaise enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, running, playing guitar, and battling it out in ice hockey.

Sienna Flynn

Designer

Sienna joined Outlands Design as a passionate designer, eager to apply her studies in practice. Throughout her professional journey, Sienna has worked on projects spanning multiple disciplines, including high-end residential, institutional, and commercial offices.

Her fascination with the impact of simple design decisions on a person's experience drives her to create meaningful buildings that serve a purpose and transform through human use and interaction. Designing a home presents a unique opportunity for Sienna to create a building that serves the client's needs in a way that brings peace to their everyday life.

She earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Wentworth Institute of Technology, laying the foundation for a career in architecture and design. Sienna's creative thinking was further shaped by her fortunate experiences studying abroad in both Berlin, Germany, and Benin, West Africa, where she immersed herself in different cultures and studied vernacular design typologies and strategies. These experiences have influenced her approach to design and contributed to her growth as a designer.

With a strong passion for her chosen field, Sienna always knew she wanted to pursue a creative profession. Her dedication and enthusiasm for architecture and design make her a valuable addition to the Outlands Design team.

In her free time, Sienna is obsessed with graphic design, dogs, and sports. She is always looking forward to her next adventure around the world.
